I really like the vibe of Hyannis. Is it really far from Falmouth, and if not, do you have any properties there?

Hyannis is only about 20 miles away from Falmouth, making it an excellent location for runners participating in the Cape Cod Marathon Weekend, and yes, we do offer lovely family homes in Hyannis.

You mentioned a winery earlier, but I am a beer drinker, are there any breweries on Cape Cod?

Cape Cod offers quite a selection of breweries, including the Barnstable Brewery, located at 485 W Main Street in Hyannis, a family owned business that has been quenching our thirst since 2017. But if you want tradition, Cape Cod Beer, 1336 Phinney’s Lane (also in Hyannis) is Cape Cod’s original microbrewery, open since 2004.

Do you provide linens in your Pretty Picky Rentals? We’ve noticed many Cape Cod companies do not, or if they do, they require you to rent them at an additional price.

Not providing linens has been a long-standing Cape Cod tradition, with travelers bringing their own from home, but we think it is time for that tradition to come to an end, and ALL of our properties are equipped with linens.

I’m carb loading in preparation for the marathon, can you recommend a good Italian restaurant in Falmouth?

Italian food offers the most delicious way to carb load, and The Vine, 824 Main Street in Falmouth, is one of our favorite places to do so. Offering homemade pasta dishes and lots of delicious seafood dishes, we think you will really love this wonderful restaurant.

I see your Hyannis homes are near the Hyannis Port Golf Club, is that a public course?

Unfortunately, that is a private course, but some of our properties in Hyannis offer putting greens in the backyard and views of the course, if that is any consolation.

Many Options for Running

The standard marathon length is 26.2 miles, and sometimes even the most hardcore runners can’t find it in themselves to exert the effort, so many visitors/amateur runners are pleased to know that the weekend is divided into a series of races, making it easy to find the one that fits their style. Held over Columbus Day weekend, the full marathon begins on Sunday at 8 AM with the route that begins and ends in Falmouth, taking participants on a scenic journey along the coastline of Nantucket Sound. The Cape Cod Marathon Relay follows the same route but is broken down into segments where the next member of your team will pick up the baton. Each leg ranges from 2.8 miles to 7.7 miles, something that may be more manageable for many runners. Other runs over the two days include a 5K, a half marathon held on Saturday, and something called the Lobstah Challenge, in which runners complete the half marathon and the 5K (new in 2025). The Clam Chowdah Challenge is for those who really like to run, encouraging runners to finish both the half and full marathon, while the Kids’ Fun Run, held on Sunday, gives the littles their chance to participate by running one or more loops around the 1/5 mile track.

Requirements for Rentals in the Cape After the Run

Even if you don’t complete the Lobstah or Clam Chowdah challenges, and even if you have been running for years, you are going to want a comfortable place to relax in, something Pretty Picky Properties is happy to provide. Obviously, as a runner you enjoy pushing your body to its limits, but to ensure that it rebounds the next day, a long night of deep and restful sleep is required, and the beds in our tranquil bedrooms are up to the challenge. Premium mattresses will give you your soft place to land, and quiet surroundings will ensure that nothing disrupts your REM sleep, including the sun peeking in the window the next morning, as windows or blinds can be drawn tightly closed. Televisions mounted to the wall or resting on dressers across from the bed may be exactly what you need to lull your brain into a state that is ready to rest, but don’t forget, the en suite bath to the primary suite may also offer that deep soaking tub. Sometimes all you need to quiet your brain down is a hot bath, a good book, and now that the athletic portion of your weekend has been completed, a glass of really good wine!
