As you start planning your Cape Cod vacation, you may not be aware that the Cape is divided into four sections, the Upper, Mid, Outer, and the topic of today’s writing, the Lower Cape. The Lower Cape is known for its pristine beaches, its historic villages and towns, and for being the site of more of our Pretty Picky Properties vacation rentals. For those who aren’t quite sure where they want to land during their Massachusetts travels, today we thought we would take a few minutes out of your day to describe our Lower Cape vacation rentals and a little bit more about the best activities and restaurants in the region.

The Lower Cape
Made up of four towns, Brewster, Chatham, Harwich, and Orleans, each bringing something different to the table when it comes to adventure and fun. Brewster, also known as the Sea Captain’s Town, is the town in which many sea captains made their homes and today, you can tour one of those homes, the Captain Elijah Cobb House. Built in 1799 and located at 739 Lower Road, the tour offers a peek into 1800s life. Chatham, on the other hand, is known for its famous lighthouse, the Chatham Light. Built in 1808 and rebuilt in the mid-1800s, it is open for tours during the high tourist season.
Harwich is the site of cranberry farms, and the Harwich Cranberry Arts & Music Festival is held every year in September, a festival that celebrates the works of talented crafters, musicians, and, of course, the tart and tiny fruits that often complete the Thanksgiving meal. And when it comes time to explore Orleans, military buffs can’t stay away as it is the only town in the nation to have been the target of the Germans in WWII, having been fired upon by a German U-boat.
