Adventures in Cape Cod Journey

You came to Cape Cod for fun, a four-seasons climate, as well as the sand and water at the beach along the Atlantic Ocean. To fuel your adrenaline though, the Cape offers a myriad of adventures in Cape Cod that will give you a rush of excitement.

Day 1:

Deep Sea Fishing

If you’re looking to sail the high seas of the Atlantic in search of striped bass, bluefin tuna, bluefish, flounder, mackerel, cod, and others, charter a deep sea excursion. Many companies across Cape Cod offer trips that last from a couple hours to all day and even overnight! They may also include conveniences like all the rods, reels, bait, and tackle you’ll need for a productive time on the water. A few exclusive companies actually provide the proper Massachusetts fishing licenses, but make sure to check and secure your own before departing. For extra thrills, ask about night fishing, or shark fishing.

Surf Camp

There is plenty of water adventure to be had along the shores of Cape Cod with your loved ones. Whether you’re a group of seasoned beach bums who just hasn’t tried it yet, or don’t live near a beach with surf-able waves, grab your buddies and a surfboard for some lessons. Professional instructors teach you everything you need to know to catch your own waves, either on a regular surfboard or on a windsurfing adventure – or both!

Day 2:

Undersea Adventures

Tap one of the many companies that help you take your Cape Cod water adventure below the waves. Book a snorkeling or SCUBA diving tour and plunge under the water to see a side of Cape Cod and the Atlantic Ocean you can’t see up close from inside a tour boat, or near shore. Many companies offer SCUBA certification before the trip, and if you want to rent gear to dive later, you’ll need to be certified.

Jet Skis

When you feel the need for speed and adventure, have an adrenaline-pumping good time and rent a jet ski. Slice through the waters of the Atlantic around Cape Cod at top speed. Many of the companies that rent boats, kayaks, canoes, and other vessels also rent jet skis for plenty of fast-paced water excitement.

Charter a jet ski excursion or tour of the area to get comfortable with the craft or see some of the best places in the area for your own adventures in Cape Cod later. Anyone looking to take the helm, either on a charter or on your own, must be at least 16 years old.

Day 3:

Parasailing

Go up, up, and away over the water! Take off from the deck of a specially designed and USCG-approved parasailing boat to fly high above the waters of the Atlantic. Keep watch on the water from your bird’s eye view for dolphins, whales, fish, and other sea life. Bring your waterproof or disposable camera to capture the memories from your perspective. Many companies also offer a photo and/or GoPro package to record the ride. Ask about weight or age restrictions before booking.

Skydiving

Go up over the water and land of Cape Cod and take a dive from up high. The plane will continue to fly high, even after you and the instructor take your tandem skydiving jump. You’ll freefall for about 45 seconds before landing gracefully with the parachute built for two. If you’re feeling “too old” for the experience, keep in mind former President George Bush Sr. was taking the plunge nearly every year, and well into his 90s.

Horseback Riding

If you’re looking to fulfill a bucket list item like horseback riding through Cape Cod, you’ll find no shortage of places to go or companies to ride with. For guided trail rides, Ridge Valley Riding Stables and Meeting House Farm & Sanctuary offer great experiences that may include walking along the beach. There are a number of other stables and equestrian centers that offer riding lessons, if you’re looking to expand your skills on a longer trip to the Cape. Most companies will want the age, height, and weight of riders in order to pair everyone with the appropriate horse. If you plan to ride on your own, a horse permit may be required.
