Why St. Patrick’s Day is a Hidden Gem Time to Visit Cape Cod
People forget that our state has a strong Irish history, and although you may think that visiting in the summer is the best time to visit, St. Patrick’s Day may be a hidden gem in the spring. First, this is Cape Cod’s off-season, meaning the crowds won’t be present and you will enjoy a more authentic experience, hanging out with the locals. Secondly, many of our locals are of Irish descent, and everyone knows that the Irish really know how to throw a party! Finally, Ireland is known to be a land of magic, and your St. Patrick’s Day coastal celebration will make the holiday celebration even more magical than you dreamed it could be.

St. Patrick’s Day Fun and Local Attractions
The party starts early on Cape Cod, and for some travelers, you may decide you want to visit that first weekend in March when the bulk of the celebrations occur (as shown below). Of course, there will also be wonderful shenanigans to enjoy if you do stick to your plan of arriving on or near March 17th, and we have listed those below as well, to ensure your stay never disappoints!
St. Patrick’s Day Parade in Yarmouth, Early March
For the most part, the celebration is generally held the first week in March, with our nearly world-famous Cape Cod St. Patrick’s Day Parade being the one event you NEED to experience. Offering colorful floats, classic cars, and all the green you would expect, the nearly 2-mile-long parade never fails to thrill. Also offering food trucks and a beer garden, we really enjoy being able to celebrate the holiday twice in one month.
Cape Cod Irish Festival in Hyannis, Early March
That first weekend in March is a popular one for the Irish here on Cape Cod, and our two-day-long Cape Cod Irish Festival is the perfect example. Offering Irish themed shenanigans, including food, music, and a peek into the Irish lifestyle, this celebration will make you glad you decided to visit a little earlier than you planned.
