Summer is our favorite season on Cape Cod and as the summer holidays begin to roll around, we get positively giddy knowing how much fun can be had on our little section of paradise! Memorial Day serving as the kickoff to the season, but offering an underlying somberness due to the reason behind the season, Labor Day also hiding a little sadness behind the celebration as it signifies the end of summer on Cape Cod, and July 4th? Well, we have to say we think it is a holiday that is the ultimate in perfection, celebrating 247 years of freedom in the spot where our nation first began, and offering a host of adventures, comfortable, exciting, fun, and relaxing, that are destined to make America’s birthday your favorite holiday of all! We at Pretty Picky Properties have created this guide to the 4th Of July Events In Cape Cod and have included the more comfortable adventures you can enjoy with us when you choose our holiday hideaways to make your own!
4th Of July Events And Activities In Cape Cod
Everyone loves a parade and the Chatham 4th of July Parade, held on July 4th starting at 9:30 am is one of our nation’s oldest parades! 1908 was the first year the procession began, offering floats and marching bands, and all the red, white, and blue we could handle and today, 115 years later, people still flock to our doorstep to take in the show! Over 20,000 people call Chatham their home on this very important day in our country’s history and if you miss the parade it may not change your life, but it will be a sad moment in your own personal Independence Day history! This year’s theme is Timeless Chatham: Then, Now, and Beyond, and we at Pretty Picky Properties are excited to see how the participants imagine this!
Orleans 4th of July Parade
Chatham isn’t the only game in town when it comes to 4th of July Parades and the Orleans one promises to be equally exciting! Offering its own theme, Red, White, Blue, and You, it begins at 10 am (allowing our guests to sleep in a little later!) and also providing colorful floats, talented marching bands, and smiling viewers lining up on the sidewalks of downtown Orleans, if your holiday hideaway is in this town, it may be the one you want to see!
Cape Cod Baseball League
Formed in 1923 (but playing unofficially since the late 1880s) the Cape Cod Baseball League has long been a summer tradition on Cape Cod, giving up and comers a chance to show their stuff, with many players going on to long and gloried careers. It’s only fitting that on this summer holiday there will be multiple games playing across Cape Cod at absolutely no cost to you! Chatham will be playing at Orleans at 6:30 and Brewster will be playing at Harwich also at 6:30, and if you are worried about missing out on the fireworks, Cotuit will be playing at Falmouth at 4:30. Baseball is always a good time, and our own boys of summer will amaze and delight!
Setting the Sky Alight
Our most favorite tradition for 4th of July, is, of course, the fireworks shows that can be found in different areas all over the Cape, with one particularly fantastic show taking place on July 1st, the weekend before the 4th of July. If you make your way to our doorstep in time for the Rock Harbor fireworks display, we can promise you won’t be disappointed! Taking place on July 1st at dusk and visible from multiple spots on the Cape, including Crosby Beach in Brewster or Boat Meadow Landing in Eastham, this show is one of our favorites, but it isn’t the only one being offered. On 4th of July, Falmouth Heights Beach offers its own beachy show and if you bring your own radio you can listen to the music that accompanies the show by tuning into PIXY 103. Sandwich, as usual is outdoing them all, offering not just the fireworks show that will be held at Shawme Pond near the Hoxie House, they will also feature a picnic in the park, games, a concert performed by one of our local bands, and right before the fireworks extravaganza, a boat parade destined to bring you joy!
